David Nobbs
1935-2015
David Nobbs was one of the premier comedy writers of his generation, who, over the course of his career, wrote novels, radio plays and TV shows. David loved to write but he also loved to mentor other writers.
Born in Petts Wood, Kent in 1935, having completed his National Service, David read English at Cambridge where he wrote for Footlights. After a stint as a reporter at the Sheffield Star David began his comedy career writing for That Was The Week That Was, Kenneth Williams, Frankie Howerd, Les Dawson and The Two Ronnies. David is best known as the creator of comedy character Reggie Perrin. His book The Death of Reginald Perrin was adapted into the sitcom classic The Fall and Rise of Reggie Perrin.
David died in August 2015. His peers regarded him as a comic genius.
